Circuitry: Analog, four-transistor circuit (specifically the EH-3003 design utilizing vintage, highly coveted transistors like the FS36999).
Controls: Volume, Tone, and Sustain.
Volume: Sets the overall output level.
Tone: Blends between low-pass and high-pass filters, creating the signature scooped mid-range the Big Muff is known for.
Sustain: Controls the amount of fuzz, distortion, and violin-like sustain.
Power: 9-volt battery (via an internal battery snap). Very early '71 models also featured an on/off switch integrated into the Volume pot or a hardwired AC power cable.
Bypass: Hardwire bypass (True bypass was not introduced until later reissues).
Enclosure: Unpainted or silver/grey bent sheet-metal casing.
